Filmed a couple of videos recently for the Association of British Dispensing Opticians. Filming on location and editing this week. Two really interesting lectures by industry specialists that will be used for internal distribution and training. Really nice headquarters in Birmingham.

Somerset Graduations!
This weekend saw me photographing the Graduates of Richard Huish College at their graduation ceremony.
The weather was booked and, before and after the ceremony, graduates took themselves into my studio for their formal photographs. During the ceremony, Professor Rob Warner, Vice Chancellor of Plymouth Marjon University gave an extremely motivating speech to the students and audience.
Huge congratulations to all the work undertaken by students and staff and I wish you all the very best in your future careers.
Not one, but TWO weddings photographed, on my birthday…
A beautiful start to the Bank Holiday Weekend, and the weather is promised to be great all weekend!
So this is wedding one of two today, and I’ll have earned my beer when I get home tonight. Tomorrow I’ll be celebrating with friends and family at my annual BBQ.
Congratulations to Dinesh and Yolanta on their wedding today.
If you’ve a special occasion you need photographing, just give me a call…

Charity Abseil Photography for Birmingham Children’s Hospital
Richard Lycett is THE Charity Abseil Photographer to book for your Charity Abseil
anywhere in the UK.
Saturday 10th March saw a wet but relatively mild start to the day for Birmingham
Children’s Hospital charity abseil at the famous Fort Dunlop building which overlooks
the M6 motorway on the north side of the city – only 7 days earlier and this would have had to be cancelled as we had deep snow across the country.
Some were nervous…
77 brave abseilers were booked in for the event, which in 2017 raised over £49,000 for the hospital’s charity. Today’s youngest abseiler is just 8 years old! Well done to all who have taken part in this today! My photographer and daughter, Emily, did a sterling job today on the roof. Fortunately the rain held off for the day.
London Conference Photographer

The conference photographer is back in London…
Today’s client is a banking related business. They choose me to be their conference photographer for some three conferences each year in London. Today’s conference sees 500+ delegates from across the globe meet up at one of London’s best hotels with great conference facilities, this one being the London Riverbank Park Plaza. This is a modern hotel on the South Bank of the Thames, just a few minutes’ walk from Vauxhall rail and underground stations. Conference facilities are underground, but incredibly there is still great mobile phone signal reception and there is also great free wifi supplied. The wifi is totally free of any login, so no annoying registration screens, passwords or adverts!
Some 46 speakers over two days will be appearing, including people from Microsoft and Google, banks and banking suppliers. I enjoy paying attention to all the conferences I photograph. One interesting point made today was “What’s your core business?”. The German speaker made this point about petrol stations (in Germany, but I imagine this figure is reflected internationally). Delegates were asked “What percentage of profit is from Petrol?”. Various options were offered to the delegates, and most guessed correctly at “less than 20%”. In fact, the actual figure was 5.6%! Quite shocking how the core business has had to shift to adapt to a changing marketplace. Similarly with photography, Kodak used to be the number one supplier of film across the planet. Where are they now? Evolve, quickly, or go the way of the dinosaurs.
Why employ a Conference Photographer?
Having great images of your conference is essential! Use it in your tweets, in your press releases and in your PR. But most importantly, it’s essential to advertise your next event. Having great images will encourage people to share your PR and tweets, to tag friends and colleagues on Facebook, and of course, make it look interesting!!! This will mean increased delegate numbers for your next event, and with many delegate day rates I’ve seen approaching or even surpassing four figures, surely this makes good business sense.
Why employ Richard Lycett to be your Conference Photographer?
Why do businesses choose me to be their conference photographer? And keep using me every time? Reasons people have given before now are: Thoroughly professional, understands our brief, flexible, dependable. I can deliver the images on the day and this is something organisers are asking of me more often. The ability to display great photos on screens and monitors throughout the day is great for your visitors. Today’s conference was no different and a showreel of my photographs played throughout the drinks reception which attracted interest and comment.
I Supply photographs on the day to your computer or the following day via a download. It’s up to you! I attend with at least two cameras, and am always be as unobtrusive as possible.
If you’re seeking professional photography of your conference, be it in London, Manchester, Birmingham or anywhere else, please get in touch.
Backspace in Chrome is restored!
admin Uncategorized Chrome Backspace, Chrome backspace restored, Google chrome
Oh Yes! I have just stumbled on a Google Chrome plugin that returns the functionality of the backspace which used to (until 2016) take me (and millions of users) back to the previous webpage. I can report it works just like it says on the tin!
This is actually written by google themselves, and it appears the relatively poor reviews are just gripes about the original removal of the function in 2016. If you’re a Chrome lover, this is the one for you!
I’m also quite happy I can now use my little finger while typing after breaking it 5 weeks ago…
Conference in Oxford – Dinosaurs and Dodo

Conference Photographer goes to Oxford
I’d not been to this museum before, but they have an impressive collection, known most famously for having a bit of Dodo. There are a couple of casts from it on display, and the staff uniform bears a Dodo as their logo. As you enter, you are greeted by a huge museum hall lit by natural light as the whole roof is glass. This sadly limits what can be put out on display due to the sun’s UV rays. I felt honoured to be in such a magnificent place, working as a Conference Photographer.
At the back of the main hall is the Pitt Rivers museum. A very dark area, dimly lit and the complete opposite of the bright main hall. Here, you will find thousands of artefacts collected from around the world. Tribal cultural items, canoes and even a massive totem pole. The Pitt Rivers museum is well worth a visit, and to make it even more attractive, entry is free.
They have a large theatre/auditorium to seat 250, and the conference filled it. Speakers from across the globe talking about cataloguing and the archiving of museum items. The conference was organised by software developers in the field.
There were two drinks receptions over the two days – day one was a smaller affair in the museum under the dinosaurs and day two was at a city centre public house. Here are some images from the two days:
